David Brunt - Bass
David's musical career started on rhythm guitar in punk/new wave bands on the North Lincolnshire live music scene, enjoying a residency at Brigg Corn Exchange in the late 1970's initially with the band Sign Of The Times.
A far cry from the time being coerced into classical piano training at the age of four with a bag of fruit salads and black jacks, enjoying a similar residency in the Lincolnshire Youth Orchestra playing the viola in his early teens before realising that amplified instruments were far more annoying to his parents, but nonetheless good preparation for the regional music scene across South and East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire where contemporaries and fellow bill sharers included Red Guitars, Everything But The Girl and The Housemartins.
Fortunately for The Amplifires David didn't follow in the footsteps of the latter, moving from bass to DJ'ing as the ubiquitous and unnecessary Fat Boy Slim did, instead he moved from guitar to bass.
1981 saw a move to university and opportunities to soak up many musical experiences and influences ranging from Hawkwind and The Who through to The Photos, Echo And the Bunnymen and The Tourists although playing did take a back seat. This included seeing Slade in original line up with the similarly classically trained Jim Lea on bass - fate would at some point intervene as Cum On Feel The Noize has entered the Amplifires set as a crowd-pleasing standard on some of the pub-based gigs!
In 2002 David formed the band - The Gophers - before meeting Steve via ebay, trading guitar related items of course! Before you knew it two elements of The Amplifires had been put together and David took up the bass for the first time.
Together with Kim, David provides the backbone of The Amplifires, delivering the low end punch to our distinctive sound.
